Morley Victoria Primary School
About us...
Morley Victoria is a highly successful Primary School in the heart of a busy, close-knit community. We have around 460 pupils on roll from Nursery to Year 6. We are very proud of our old Victorian building that is full of character and charm. We pride ourselves on our child-centred approach in everything we do, underpinned by ‘Investors in Pupils’ and Growth Mindsets which are at the heart of the ethos of our school. We believe that every child who comes to our school can be successful because of our high expectations and drive for the very best in all aspects of teaching and learning. We strongly believe that all children who leave our school in Year 6 should be ‘well rounded’ in terms of their learning, their character, their attitude towards work and their self-confidence, having gained a wide range of skills across the school. Ultimately, we would like all pupils to leave us prepared for their next stage of education and prepared for life in modern Britain. There are no limits on what our pupils can achieve.
Our curriculum is exciting and varied – the subjects that we study are based on 5 key areas:
- Learn and Use Key Skills,
- Research and Understand the Past, Present and Future,
- Explore and Understand the World Around Me,
- Appreciate and Enjoy the Arts,
- The Whole Child Approach
The children thrive because of the outstanding relationships that exist at Morley Victoria; because of the excellent teaching, learning and range of activities that are planned for them both in and out of school, based on our strong, ambitious curriculum. We consider ourselves to be an ever-evolving school, constantly striving to seek ways to help us to improve and be the best we can possibly be. All of the adults in school share the same high expectations and aspirations for our children and everyone works tirelessly to achieve the school's vision for pupils to be well rounded, caring, respectful and creative learners. Everyone at our school believes that all of our children can achieve highly and are united in their determination for the children to achieve their potential because there is no ceiling on learning and no limit to what the children can achieve. There is a great deal of information about our curriculum and the wider aspects of school life on this website but if there is something you can't find, then please just ask.
At Morley Victoria there is a strong safeguarding culture and all staff, Governors and visitors are aware of their responsibilities. There is a culture of ongoing vigilance and the notion of the fact that it could happen here. Training is regular and ongoing to ensure that we keep our children safe from harm. Please see our dedicated safeguarding section for more information
Our Historic School Building
Our largest school building is a fine example of the best architecture of the late nineteenth century and was built as a progressive board school in 1901. Until 1976 the school catered only for children up to the age of seven. In September 1976, the school began to develop into an Infant and Junior School taking over the buildings vacated by high school children. In 1982 the Nursery department was opened and the school has catered for 3 – 11 year olds ever since. As you will be able to see from the map below, our school is extensive - much of it can not be seen from Asquith Avenue or Victoria Road but our buildings extend back away from the main roads. We are very lucky to have such a beautiful setting and we make the very best use of this wonderful space. If you feel that Morley Victoria is the school for you, you are most welcome to visit us. Please contact the school office to arrange an appointment and we will look forward to meeting you. If you would like free copies of anything you find on the website, please contact the school office (translated version, braille or audio version are available on request).
Long Standing Staff
The school is very unusual in that it has only had a handful of long-standing Headteachers in more than 100 years. Mr Elstub, the most recently retired Headteacher, had been in position for 20 years, during which time the school has made continuous improvements. Mrs Wood has been at the school for over 20 years and has been the Headteacher since 2017. We believe in a culture of 'growing our own' so when we have the opportunity to welcome new staff, we like to offer them a wide range of opportunities throughout their career to help them to grow and develop as their career progresses. Many of our staff are very long-standing and many trained at Morley Victoria or indeed started their careers here. People don't leave lightly and often to advance their careers through promotion or more responsibility. Our staff share the same passion to develop and nurture our children's skills, talents and interests and as a result, our children thrive.
What happens after Morley Victoria?
We do our upmost to ensure that the children are academically, personally and socially ready for the next stage of their education. A great deal of work goes into this each year and everyone in school contributes to this in one way or another. At 11 years of age, the children usually transfer to one of the local high schools:- Bruntcliffe Academy, Morley Academy or Woodkirk Academy.
